To ease another’s heartache is to forget one’s own. A world in constant conflict with itself, empathy is golden; the struggle to find meaning in life is a goal many will never achieve and to find fulfilment in easing the pain of others is the ultimate sacrifice, and like a phoenix, it rises from the unquenchable desire to give and give until life is restored and hope comes ALIVE!

A decade and more of internal struggles, confronting stereotypes and defying constituted principalities finally gave birth to a movement poised to restore hope to the hopeless, educate the ignorant and provide access to primary health information to the most vulnerable of the society.

As founder and Executive Director of ALIVE, Pandora Obiefuna came almost prepared. At 3, she lost her father in the internecine Liberian civil war; left with a distraught mother, an infant brother, in a brutal IDP camp, she learnt from infancy what an uncaring world we live in. A miraculous airlift back to Nigeria still could not guarantee the privileged life she had enjoyed as a kid and thus a long walk in the field of want beckoned gladly.

Fast-forward ……and as student of the University of Port Harcourt, she found herself constantly drawn to causes of charity and humanity….

With a Masters Degree in Public Health, she has since devoted herself to affecting the lives of people in communities less travelled by the pricey cameras of donors and big government officials through  galvanising resources from like minds, free spirited individuals and volunteers. Against all odds, and at the risk of loosing all she held dear, she has persevered in this self appointed task of bringing joy to the hearts of the less privileged and moving the stone that has held many people down in poverty through education on public health, economic empowerment programmes and……..

With her light-hearted story telling techniques, often reflecting on her life, she has formed a large community, using the power of social media, to unite and become an anchor for people especially abused women and children to find solutions and lift many out of depressing life circumstances. Pandora, through ALIVE has become a channel through which people have found their lives again!
