Community-based Hygiene Education

Hand Hygiene training is one of ALIVE’s Behavioural Change Communication Strategy to promote healthy behaviours and positive health outcomes amongst vulnerable children and women in disadvantaged communities.

Hand washing with soap at key moments is an essential health intervention. Hand washing with soap is an effective and affordable way to prevent infections and save lives. Washing of hands as simple as it is can prevent the spread of germs.

We are creating a world where every vulnerable child can grow to adulthood in good health.

According to the WHO, 50% of child undernutrition cases are due to repeated cases of diarrhea and intestinal infections caused by poor sanitation and hygiene conditions. Handwashing with soap is an effective way to curb undernutrition in children.

Good nutrition is not just eating nutritious food,  it also entails the body’s ability to absorb nutrients. If children do not wash their hands with soap before handling food,  disease carrying germs can have a direct access into their mouth and down into their gut where they can inhibit the body’s ability to optimise nutrients from food
